Community Buildings Fire Safety LogFire Safety Log Book

This Fire Safety Log Book has been prepared to assist the ‘responsible person’ for your Community Building in co-ordinating and maintaining a fire safety record keeping system.

Why would your Community Building want a Fire Safety Log Book?

There is no statutory requirement to have a Fire Safety Log Book, but Article 17 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the ‘responsible person’ for premises to ensure that all fire safety facilities, equipment and devices are maintained in efficient working order and in good repair.

Additionally, Article 21 states that where there are employees, they should be provided with adequate safety training. The Order also requires that tests, maintenance and safety training are capable of being audited to ensure they are being carried out.

The most effective way of demonstrating compliance with these particular Articles is to keep records, and a Fire Safety Log Book is a simple way of doing it.

The log book should be kept up to date and readily available for inspection by the Fire and Rescue Service if and when required.

This Fire Safety Log Book has been prepared to assist the ‘responsible person’ for your Community Building in co-ordinating and maintaining a fire safety record keeping system.

For many years Community Buildings such as village halls, parish halls, memorial halls, etc... have been left to their own devices in respect of Health & Safety, but our information is that this will change, as enforcing authorities have now realised that many such buildings have little or nothing in the way of Health & Safety or Fire Safety provision for their users.

Our Fire Safety Log Book is aimed to help Community Building management committees and trustees demonstrate their compliance in a simple-to-follow manner. This book was designed by people who are members of such a Committee so know only too well what is needed.
